The Tollhouse etched on the glass, the bright dining room and the trees of the riverbank beyond

The terrace

Drinks over
the water.

In the middle of the city, an outdoor terrace above the flowing Water of Leith — the one view in Edinburgh you can’t book anywhere else.

The view

The river runs
right beneath you.

The Water of Leith was once the city’s hardest-working river — mills, tanneries, the route from Leith’s port up to the town. Today it runs clear and quiet beneath the terrace, past the old stone crescents of Canonmills.

Pull up a chair on the terrace with a glass in hand, and watch the water go by. In cooler months, the same river fills the windows of the room inside.

Water of Leith cocktails

A list drawn from
the river below.

A short cocktail list inspired by the water it looks over — botanical, seasonal, poured with the same care as the plates leaving the kitchen.

And a river worth toasting: 50p from every Water-of-Leith cocktail goes to the Water of Leith Conservation Trust, who keep it clean and alive.
